Shepherd Skinning a Dead New Born Lamb
Against a background of semingly continious crisis in the British farming industry a shepherd skins a dead new-born lamb from his flock of Blackface sheep in order to make a coat for an orphan. The orphan lamb will then be adopted by a ewe sheep believing the lamb is its own. Disease such as foot-and-mouth and downward preasure on prices mean many farmers face an uncertain future. On this farm in the Scottish Southern Uplands success continues by specialising in the hardy Blackface breed and selling mutton (sheep meat from older animals) direct to consumers by mail order.
